SOUTHWEST ASIA—A 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Airman tirelessly remodeled a facility into a fully-functioning relaxation haven for deployed U.S. and Coalition service members here.

Staff Sgt. Jordan dedicated more than 250 off-duty hours to renovate the previously unused facility, which will be used by deployed service members to strengthen resilience.

“I used all of my spare time [renovating the center] every day—even on my off days,” Jordan said. “It actually helped me relax and focus on my mission here. It helped me not think about missing home and family so much.”

After several weeks of volunteer labor, the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing Airman Ministry Center opened for deployed service members.

380 AEW Wing Chaplain, Lt. Col Tucker, discussed the importance of the new facility for developing spiritual readiness and community relationships while deployed.

“This is a place where there are no strangers, just friends that haven't met yet,” Tucker said. “Staff Sgt. Jordan’s efforts have ensured a sustainable operation so that future service members have immediate access to a place where they can experience a family atmosphere alongside the Chaplain Corps that builds resiliency which empowers mission accomplishment.”

The previous ministry center was visited more than 72,000 times annually.

Tucker said he believes this facility will assist in the in accomplishment of the 380 AEW mission and ultimately the fight against ISIS through Operation Inherent Resolve.

“After all of the hard work and the many hours this group has put into remodeling and decorating the new Airman Ministry Center it gives me great gratitude to see all of the people that will be able to enjoy time relaxing from the deployed life,” Jordan said. “I love seeing my deployed family being able to fellowship and enjoy the space.”
