The Kentucky Air National Guard’s Airman and Family Readiness Program is being recognized as the best in the Air National Guard for 2016 in a ceremony at the Pentagon Hall of Heroes on March 24, 2017.
The award, which is distributed annually to each of the seven reserve components, includes a commemorative plaque and a framed certificate that acknowledge the family programs who are performing their functions the best.
“I am very proud that the dedication and hard work of our Airman and Family Readiness team has been recognized,” said Col. David Mounkes, the commander of the 123rd Airlift Wing. “This will not be a time to rest our laurels. We’re postured to continue our efforts for the sake of our airmen.
“It’s our belief that a well-rounded and well-cared for airman is well-postured to be a mission-focused and ready airman. We have a passion to care from all of our airmen and their families; they are each and all very important to us.”
The Department of Defense Reserve Family Readiness Awards program was established in 2000 to recognize the top unit in each of the reserve components. Selection criteria for the annual award is based on instances of command involvement, community linkage and total force focus, and innovative displays of development and initiative.
Amy Quimby, the Airman and Family Readiness Program manager for the Kentucky Air National Guard, gave appreciation to those who made the program what it is.
“It’s about the support from our community and our commanders, our first sergeants, our chiefs, our Key Volunteer Group and so on,” Quimby said. “It’s about all of us coming together and having a successful program and being able to provide for our service members and their families.”
