PENSACOLA, Fla. – Rear Adm. Mike White, commander of Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), visited Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) to congratulate the staff for winning the 2016 overall Training Excellence White “T” award, Feb. 16.
The annual Training Excellence Award (TEA) program recognizes commands for demonstrating superior performance for training or training support. The White “T” is awarded to one of 10 centers and schools across the NETC domain eligible to compete.
“I couldn’t be more proud of all that CIWT has done this past year,” said White, during a CIWT all-hands call. “The Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who walk through the center’s schoolhouses go on to do their jobs exceptionally well due to the training they receive. CIWT’s ability to come out on top with the White ‘T’ reflects their remarkable professionalism and dedication to the training mission.”
White presented a certificate and the overall TEA pennant, or blue burgee, to Capt. Bill Lintz, CIWT’s commanding officer. CIWT is authorized to display the burgee throughout 2017.
“We’ve worked very hard for this,” Lintz told the staff. “We look at the Training Excellence Award as our readiness metric for preparing our students for war. This award is special because we’ve proven we are the best at training.”
TEA is composed of three categories: the learning center Training Excellence White "T" award, the training support center Training Support Excellence White "TS" award, and functional merit awards.
To be considered for a functional area award, commands must achieve a minimum score of 90 percent on established performance measures dealing with every aspect of a training center’s mission. The learning center with the highest cumulative score percentage from all the functional areas is awarded the White “T.”
CIWT received seven functional merit awards, including the Business Administration and Support Yellow “T”; Planning and Programming Silver “T”; Total Force Management Red “T”; Logistics Management Blue “T”; Curriculum Management Black “T”; Training Support Management Bronze “T”; and Training Production Management Green “T.”
“All these areas and more come together with everybody working as a team to accomplish our training mission,” said Lintz, encouraging his staff to continue to strive to do even better. “Our vision at CIWT is to be the Navy’s principle cutting-edge training organization and rapidly meet fleet requirements. We owe it to our students, our Navy and our nation.”
CIWT is one of the largest of the NETC learning centers with four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan. Training 22,000 students every year, CIWT offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians and officers in the information warfare community.
Center for Information Warfare Training delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
