Defense officials from the United States and Germany signed a memorandum of agreement on Wednesday at the George C. Marshall European Center in Garmisch Partenkirchen Germany.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work and German Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense Ralf Brauksiepe signed the document that increases Germany’s role at the center and further commits Germany to increase their investment in the center’s programs with personnel and funds.

Germany and the United States joined in a partnership to establish the Marshall Center in 1992 to promote dialogue and understanding among the newly independent nations of the former Soviet Union. The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies is one of five DOD regional centers for security studies and the only one that has a bilateral commitment between the United States and another nation.
More than 200 resident programs have been held at the center since the first course in 1993. The Center boasts an alumni of more than 12,000 government and military graduates from 151 nations.
