MUAK LEK DISTRICT, SARABURI PROVINCE, Thailand - A command team with the combined Joint Civic-Military Operations Task Force element of Exercise Cobra Gold 2015 visited Mueang Saraburi, the capital district of Saraburi Province, Thailand, Jan. 28, 2015, to discuss a construction project with Saraburi Deputy Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana.

Among the key leaders were Royal Thai Army Col. Pariwat Kanchanawila and U.S. Army Maj. Alejandro Buniag, the commanding officer and deputy commander for CJCMOTF respectively.

They conversed with Tavipatana about the CG15 Engineer Civic Action Program site at Ban Sub Prik elementary school, located in Saraburi Province’s Muak Lek District – a project that will result in a new classroom facility for kindergarteners.

Deputy Governor Tavipatana welcomed his guests at city hall and Ban Sub Prik on behalf of the governor. He stated that the province would provide support if required and, after further discussion, agreed to ask local hospitals for the assistance of doctors and nurses during a Medical Civic Action Program on site during a day to be determined.

CJCMOTF serves as the headquarters for the four ENCAP sites dispersed throughout Thailand in the Saraburi, Lop Buri and Chanthaburi Provinces, and ensures the safekeeping of their multinational joint teams of Royal Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, Indian, Chinese and U.S. military engineers.

Buniag, who is also the planning officer for 303rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, based out of Fort Shafter Flats, Hawaii, utilized his knowledge from last year’s exercise by establishing rapport with each of the three involved provinces at the top level.

“The importance of receiving the (support) from the host-nation government is the key that opens doors to receiving the necessary support from leaders at the provincial level down to the local village chief and everyone in between,” explained Buniag. “The ENCAP contributions provide tangible evidence to the local populace that their host nation is committed to providing assistance to underserved areas of the country, and creates a positive image by the local populace towards the Thai and United States’ military.”

The command team will continue their support of CG15’s humanitarian civic assistance mission, aimed at supporting the needs and humanitarian interests of civilian populations around the region, with a visit to the governor of Chanthaburi Thursday.
