    3d Medical Command Deployment Support

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait. – On Nov. 5, 2014, the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) Operational Command Post (Forward) held a change of command ceremony to congratulate the outgoing Detachment 7, and to welcome the incoming Detachment 12. Both groups have been conducting relief in place operations to properly ensure the mission command transfer.

First Theater Sustainment Commander, Maj. Gen. Darrell K. Williams, served as the keynote speaker and thanked soldiers for their leadership and dedication for providing health service support to warfighters.

“Thank you for taking care of these great Americans and for providing outstanding medical support to our servicemembers in Afghanistan, Kuwait and the entire U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. You have made a significant difference; enhancing our medical readiness and saving lives,” said Williams.

The 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) Operational Command Post (Forward) provided support to twenty-five rotating subordinate medical units and personnel consisting of over 1,000 joint service members and civilian contractors throughout Afghanistan, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and Kyrgyzstan. The outgoing team also participated in military medical engagements and seminars with foreign partners in ten different countries in the USCENTCOM region to include: Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Jordan, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia.

Col. Lisa Doumont, outgoing commander, praised her team for earning the trust of soldiers at their most vulnerable times. She also commended the detachment for their commitment to the profession of arms, and leaving a legacy of fulfilling responsibilities in an ever-changing environment.

“As Army Medical Department professionals at arms, your customers most likely will need you when they are at their most vulnerable moment. Because of this your ethical and moral reputation must precede you and be above reproach. You have met that calling,” said Doumont.

The success of Detachment 7 can be attributed to the civilian skill sets and initiative of the staff, and the desire to serve and provide superior customer service to all service members, civilians, and coalition partners.

The 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) Operational Command Post (Forward) provides mission command for U.S. Army echelon above brigade medical units throughout the USCENTCOM area of responsibility in order to support stability operations and synchronize medical forces and capabilities for enduring and drawdown operations.
