    KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Trevor J. Derr, 37th Aircraft Maintenance Unit superintendent, wears a red bandana in honor of Welles Crowther, known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” during the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Sept. 11, 2026. Crowther, a volunteer firefighter, used his red bandana to cover his face while helping people escape the World Trade Center’s South Tower before he was killed when the tower collapsed.
