U.S. and Angolan medical professionals attend a tropical medicine class led by Angolan Armed Forces Capt. Baltimore de Matos, a surgeon, during the Angola Medical Readiness Exercise at Hospital Militar Principal in Luanda, Angola, Sept. 9, 2026. The class strengthened the team’s understanding of region-specific diseases and treatment considerations that may affect the 915th Foward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment’s ability to provide expeditionary emergency and surgical care in tropical environments. MEDREX enhanced the medical readiness and capabilities of U.S. and Angolan military health professionals through clinical collaboration and subject matter expert exchanges. The exercise brought together 10 U.S. Army Reserve medical professionals with the 915th FRSD, 313th Hospital Center, 2nd Medical Brigade, and was planned and executed by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF).
