FORD ISLAND, Hawaii – U.S. Navy chief petty officer selectees and chief petty officers assigned to commands at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam participate in the Boot Memorial Run at Ford Island, Hawaii. Nearly 9,000 memorial boots line the route across Ford Island, each representing a service member who died in service to the nation. Founded in 2012 by military spouse Theresa Johnson, the Boot Memorial has grown into an annual remembrance event honoring fallen service members and preserving their legacies.
