    Marine Corps Recruiting Command

Recruits of Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, practice putting on their gas masks during chemical and biological warfare defense training July 30, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Chemical warfare instructors taught recruits to put their masks on in nine seconds or less before entering the gas chamber. The training ensures recruits become comfortable with using a gas mask in a chemically or biologically contaminated environment. Hotel Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 20, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. Hotel Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 20, 2013.
