U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers, assigned to the 350th Engineer Company, 315th Engineer Battalion, Joint Task Force–Southern Border, in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, monitor movement through the Ground-Based Operational Surveillance System–Expeditionary (GBOSS-E) near Eagle Pass, Texas, Aug. 20, 2026. The mobile surveillance system provides day and night observation capabilities, allowing operators to maintain awareness of activity across areas that may be difficult to monitor from fixed positions. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
