U.S. Army Lt. Col. Patrick Mohan, commander of North Carolina’s 42nd Civil Support Team (CST), and Maj. John Johnson, deputy commander, look on as members of the unit prepare for a training scenario at Jim Beam Distillery Booker Noe Plant in Boston, Kentucky, Aug. 11, 2026. The Kentucky National Guard’s 41st CST conducted a joint training exercise with the North Carolina National Guard’s 42nd CST designed to test how teams integrate and communicate during a complex incident. During the exercise, teams conducted survey operations in separate buildings while coordinating communications and sharing critical information across the incident site. The realistic scenarios provided an opportunity to strengthen interoperability, coordination and decision-making in a controlled training environment.
