    IKEGO HILLS FAMILY HOUSING AREA, Japan (Aug. 17, 2026) – Capt. Jon Hopkins, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), and an Ikego Elementary School student ring the school bell to signal the official start of the academic year, Aug. 17, 2026. Ringing the bell is a traditional ceremony welcoming military-connected youth back to campus for the 2026-2027 school year. CFAY provides, maintains, and operates base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, 71 tenant commands, and more than 27,000 military and civilian personnel and their families.
