U.S. Army firefighters with the 192nd Firefighting Detachment, 337th Engineer Battalion, Pennsylvania National Guard, evacuate a simulated casualty from a burning aircraft as another firefighter works to extinguish the flames during Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting evaluations at Northern Strike 26-2 at Camp Grayling, Michigan, Aug. 9, 2026. The live-fire training provides realistic scenarios that strengthen firefighters’ emergency response skills, teamwork and readiness to respond to aircraft incidents.

Northern Strike is an Army sponsored, multi-component, multinational exercise designed to build readiness and enhance interoperability to fight and win. Northern Strike 26-2, Michigan’s largest and longest joint readiness exercise, is held from August 1 to 15, 2026 at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center. This year’s exercise will feature around 9,000 participants. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Sgt. 1st Class Tegan Kucera)
