U.S. Army Pvt. Clayton Dunaway and Spc. Colby Slovensky both with the 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, reinforce a barrier by attaching crow’s feet to its upper edge at National Defense Area 1 near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Aug. 12, 2026. The work establishes the mounting points needed for the subsequent installation of concertina wire and advances ongoing barrier reinforcement operations in the area. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
