The 3rd Battalion, Princess of Wales Royal Regiment, British Army conducted area defense operations and medevac training during Northern Strike 26-2 at Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center, Michigan, Aug. 10, 2026. An area defense in an urban setting is a tactical defense focused on using buildings, streets, or subterranean city features to disrupt and exhaust an enemy force, with the ultimate goal of holding the area as key terrain.

Northern Strike is an Army sponsored, multi-component, multinational exercise designed to build readiness and enhance interoperability with allied forces to fight and win. Northern Strike 26-2, Michigan’s largest and longest exercise designed to validate readiness of the joint reserve force, is held Aug. 1 to 15, 2026 at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center. This year's exercise will feature 9,000 participants. (U.S. Army photo by 2nd Lt. Charlie Finstrom)
