U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Justin Williams, a Navy Casualty mortician, explains the qualities of waxed thread for suturing to Exercise Northern Strike 26-2 participants during, at Grayling Army Airfield, Michigan, Aug. 9, 2026. Exercise NS 26-2 is a premier, joint, multinational, multi-domain military exercise hosted annually by the Michigan National Guard at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center (NADWC). It is designed to maximize combat readiness, bolster joint interoperability, and simulate realistic, high-tempo combat operations in austere and contested environments. The exercise serves as a critical testing ground for reserve and active-duty components across all branches of the armed forces and coalition partners. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
