U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Zachary Thurber, a combat engineer with Combat Logistics Battalion 7, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, provides security during barrier reinforcement operations in Nogales, Ariz., August 6, 2026. The reinforcements consist of securing barbed and concertina wire to prefabricated brackets to create a secondary barrier. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
