U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Tristan Ellerman, a combat engineer with Combat Logistics Battalion 7, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard welds prefabricated brackets onto the support beam during barrier reinforcement operations in Nogales, Ariz., August 6, 2026. The reinforcement consisted of securing barbed and concertina wire to prefabricated brackets to create a secondary barrier. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
