On June 11th, 2026, the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Mobile Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) said farewell to Lt. Col. Joseph Ryan and welcomed in the new battalion commander, Lt. Col. Duncan Walker.

Lt. Col. Ryan was not only committed to completing the mission and exceeding expectations but also to ensuring the safety and well-being of every soldier before, during, and after every mission. The soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, bid him farewell and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Lt. Col Walker, a former platoon leader for ABU company and Executive Officer for Bushmaster company, returns with high expectations. He shared how much of an honor it is to lead this battalion as its commander. Its history before him and the history he has experienced with his colleagues during their deployments in 2011-2012 made this a great motivator. “There is no one who can appreciate leading this battalion more than someone who served in it,” said Lt. Col. Walker.

“It's a stellar legacy and it’s bold to claim that we're above the rest,” claimed Lt. Col. Walker. During his command, he wants to continue cultivating the “above the rest” culture by having every soldier help earn that title as well as ensuring leaders empower soldiers to help them believe they can be all they can be. "I was only able to be the best version of myself because I had a boss who believed in me and knew I could do better."
