Soldiers render honors during the playing of the national anthem before the retirement ceremony for U.S. Army First Sgt. James R. Tomlinson in the Hall of Flags at Tennessee National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Nashville, Tenn., August 1, 2026. Tomlinson spent much of his Tennessee National Guard career with the 278th, serving as an infantryman and later in leadership positions.
