NEWPORT, R.I. — U.S. Naval War College (NWC) Dean of International Programs Robert Winneg addresses new and returning faculty and staff during the 19th annual NWC Cloister ceremony onboard Naval Station Newport, Aug. 3, 2026. The Cloister ceremony celebrates faculty accomplishments and introduces new faculty members to their peers. This year’s Cloister welcomed more than 300 faculty members from the college’s in-resident and distance education programs. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
