U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Curtis Charles, right, a financial management resource analyst with Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, shakes hands with 1st Lt. Tyler Thomas, a communication strategy and operations officer with III Marine Expeditionary Force, after receiving the honor graduate award during a graduation ceremony for martial arts instructor course 91-26 on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, on July 24, 2026. The honor graduate award was given to Charles for his exemplary academic performance and character during the course. The MAIC is designed to develop the individual Marines understanding of combative techniques while enduring both mental and physical stressors to establish a warrior’s ethos. Marines graduating the course become certified instructors, allowing them to teach Marine Corps Martial Arts Program techniques to their individual units across the Marines Corps.
