Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Gonzalo Vasquez presents a plaque given as a gift during a graduation ceremony for martial arts instructor course 91-26 on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, on July 24, 2026. The MAIC is designed to develop the individual Marines understanding of combative techniques while enduring both mental and physical stressors to establish a warrior’s ethos. Marines graduating the course become certified instructors, allowing them to teach Marine Corps Martial Arts Program techniques to their individual units across the Marines Corps.
