USCGC Jeffrey Palazzo Deck Department Tackles Port Fourchon Small Boat Exercises

Boatswain's mates of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Jeffrey Palazzo (WPC-1163) execute small boat training operations in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, May 21, 2026. This specialized training equips members with the skills necessary to safely accept, operate, and deploy the cutter's small boat during maritime operations. This boat-handling phase represents one of the final milestones of the crew's seven-week familiarization training in Louisiana as the Jeffrey Palazzo approaches its departure for Key West, Florida, where it will undergo rigorous "Ready for Sea" evaluations before commissioning. Named in honor of fallen 9/11 hero Jeffrey Palazzo, who was a Coast Guard Reservist and a New York Fire Department emergency responder, the cutter is scheduled to commission in New York September 2026 before transiting to its homeport in Guam.
