YOKOSUKA, Japan (July 15, 2026) — Defense Health Agency Director Vice Adm. Darin K. Via presents a director's coin to Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Tyler Cornell, a native of Paris, Texas, during his tour of U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka. Cornell was recognized for leading 168 sailors across five departments, synchronizing medical support for USS Blue Ridge during its scheduled dry-dock period, managing the command urinalysis program for more than 800 personnel, and strengthening emergency medical readiness by training 36 personnel as emergency medical technician instructors. Via visited the hospital to engage with leadership and staff, tour clinical spaces, and discuss initiatives that strengthen medical readiness and the delivery of high-quality healthcare across the Indo-Pacific.
