The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, continues the final phase of its Grand Strand Renourishment project in Surfside Beach and Garden City, South Carolina, on July 17, 2026.
Under a $72‑million, 100% federally funded contract with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, approximately two million cubic yards of sand are being placed along 26 miles of shoreline in North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside/Garden City. The project will build a wider, higher beach and dune system designed to absorb storm wave energy and help protect oceanfront homes, businesses, roads and utilities from coastal storm damage.
