U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Curtis Taylor, commander of 1st Armored Division and Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, U.S. Soldiers with JTF-SB, and a U.S. Border Patrol agent observe a motion sensor array near Fort Hancock, Texas, July 18, 2026. The sensor array is used to detect suspected illegal aliens crossing into the Joint Operations Area and notify Border Patrol agents about expected illegal crossings into the United States. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
