Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart speaks to Navy leaders, community leaders, and guests during a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of the Halsey Village demolition and environmental remediation project at Naval Station Great Lakes. The initiative will transform 90 acres containing 351 vacant housing units through one of the largest housing demolition and site remediation efforts in U.S. Navy history. The project, made possible through innovative Intergovernmental Support Agreements (IGSAs) with Lake County and North Chicago, represents the Navy’s first-ever use of an IGSA for environmental remediation to accelerate revitalization, improve safety, and create future opportunities for both the installation and the surrounding community.
