Soldiers with the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team conducted a MASCAL exercise, Mass Casualty Evacuation Training, June 7, 2026.
MASCAL training is designed to prepare Soldiers to respond to chaotic, large-scale incidents where the number of wounded outpaces available medical resources.
It trains units to conduct rapid triage, administer emergency first aid, coordinate multi-vehicle or aerial transport, and prevent the loss of life in high-pressure scenarios.
Because real-world emergencies with mass casualties are inherently chaotic, this training allows units to identify gaps in their protocols, test emergency response speeds, and practice large-scale interoperability with other commands, as well as civilian authorities.
