U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Charles Knauff, the command sergeant major of the 16th Engineer Battalion, renders a salute during an Independence Day celebration at Pabradė Training Area, Lithuania, July 3, 2026. The salute was rendered during the playing of the National anthem of the United States as part of a ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence and Lithuanian Statehood Day Celebration, observed July 6 in commemoration of the 1253 coronation of King Mindaugas. V Corps is the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps, serving as the senior tactical headquarters for Army forces in Eastern Europe to deter conflict and provide combat-ready forces alongside our NATO Allies. V Corps is operationalizing and expanding the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative with Allies, rapidly integrating emerging technologies into training and tactical plans.
