JEROME, Idaho – A placard dedicated to former Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, the state's 30th governor, is displayed at the Dirk Kempthorne Readiness Center, June 29, 2026. Kempthorne served as commander in chief of the Idaho National Guard from 1999 to 2006, overseeing the Guard's largest deployment to date when the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq, in 2004. He was laid to rest at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in May.
