ITOMAN, Japan (JUNE 22, 2026) - Visitors walk a candlelit path at Peace Memorial Park in Itoman, Okinawa, Japan, following a candle lighting Community Relations event, June 22, 2026. Held on the eve of Okinawa Memorial Day, the event marked the 81st anniversary of the 1945 Battle of Okinawa, honoring more than 200,000 lives lost and strengthening ties between the U.S. Navy and the local community. Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa, maintains and operates facilities supporting United Nations Command-Rear missions, coalition and allied partners, U.S. Navy ships, submarines, aircraft and joint force assets throughout the Indo- Pacific region.
