U.S. Army Spc. Jaylen Bussey, a Medical Education and Training Campus Occupational Therapy Assistant course student assigned to the 264th Medical Battalion, molds a custom splint to another student’s wrist and hand at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston on June 16, 2026. This section of the course teaches students to soften thermoplastic in a water bath at approximately 140°F to 160°F, then mold it directly to the patient's anatomical landmarks. These custom splints support tissue healing and joint rehabilitation. (U.S. Air Force photo by Melissa Hydrick)
