U.S. Army Spc. Roger Peralta, a short term individual augmentee with the 2026 Europe-Mediterranean Disinterment Team, locks down the top of a transfer case at Via Cassia, Italy, June 18, 2026. The transfer case and sent back to the laboratory in Offutt Air Force Base for further analyses and potential identification. Advanced forensic techniques, including DNA analysis, anthropological examination, and dental comparisons are used to analyze the remains and compare them to the physiological, dental, and DNA family reference sample information of the historical candidates for potential identification.
