Dr. Carrie LeGarde, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency forensic anthropologist, finishes scooping the remaining contents of the casket to begin screening at the Florence American Cemetery, Via Cassia, Italy, June 18, 2026. As part of the disinterment process, remains are carefully exhumed under the supervision of forensic anthropologists and are subsequently transferred to a DPAA laboratory in Hawaii or Nebraska for analysis.
