    SAN DIEGO (June 4, 2026) Sailors from the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) enroll in a research study aboard the the ship’s mess decks. The study is testing wearable technology to track service member sleep health and stay abreast of possible Sailor illnesses. Essex, along with 11 other U.S. Navy ships will be deployed to participate in Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026 exercise, taking place June 26 to Aug. 2. NHRC, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, supports Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality with research and development that delivers high-value, high-impact solutions to the health and readiness challenges that the U.S. military population faces on the battlefield, at-sea, home and abroad.
