SAN DIEGO (June 4, 2026) Joseph Cuellar, a research assistant with Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) sizes a Sailor from the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) for an Oura smart ring, as part of a study to evaluate biometric sleep data and detect possible illnesses. The study is testing wearable technology to track service member sleep health and stay abreast of possible Sailor illnesses. NHRC, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, supports Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality with research and development that delivers high-value, high-impact solutions to the health and readiness challenges that the U.S. military population faces on the battlefield, at-sea, home and abroad.
