U.S. Air Force Col. Robert Johnston, outgoing 27th Special Operations Wing commander, receives his final salute as commander during a change of command ceremony at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, June 18, 2026. While serving as commander of the 27th SOW, Johnston oversaw the establishment of a new Combat Arms Training and Maintenance facility that tripled the size of the previous facility, expanded access to quality medical care and he led the Wing through a historic number of crisis response operations and combat deployments.
