Members of the 126th Power Production team, 126th Civil Engineer Squadron, 126th Air Refueling Wing of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and members of the 374th CES of Yokota, Air Base Japan work together to disassemble components of the BAK-12 aircraft arrest system May 13, 2026. Strict standards govern the systems operation and maintenance. Worn components of the system are periodically replaced to ensure the system is prepared to operate at its max capacity if needed. The BAK-12 is a fixed, land based system that is used to safely stop fighter jets that are unable to brake on their own.
The Illinois Air Guardsmen were deployed for training to Yokota. The temporary duty was strategically designed to provide on the job training opportunities and host nation cultural experiences that will ready the 126th CES Airmen to build or maintain bases during contingency operations any where in the world.
