U.S. Special Operations Command historian Dr. Matthew Miller provides historical context of Omaha Beach to U.S. Navy Adm. Frank M. Bradley, commander of U.S. SOCOM, and visitors for the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, June 5, 2026. Omaha was one of five landing beaches during Operation Overlord and witnessed some of the fiercest fighting on D-Day as Allied forces began the liberation of France. The Allied invasion of Normandy remains one of the largest multinational amphibious assaults and airborne operations in history and was a turning point marking the beginning of the end of WWII in Europe.
