The “Governor’s Own” 106th Army Band performed at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art as part of the grand opening celebration of the museum’s 114,000-square-foot expansion, June 6, 2026.

“It was so much fun,” said Spc. Hannah Lomax, french horn. “I personally had a great time, and I know the group has all had a great time as well.”

The 106th’s ceremonial band played a contemporary set of classics from the American playbook. The Arkansas Guardsmen were the inaugural act to play in the new expansion’s multi-purpose space known as The Commons and Community Gallery.

“I was sneaking peeks in the audience while we were playing, especially during our “Feeling Good” piece popularized by Michael Bublé,” said Lomax. The audience was having so much fun, and really getting into it, and cheering her along, and that just made me so much more proud.”

The Guardsmen were frequently stop by other museum visitors and asked to pose for pictures with them.

“As simple as it sounds, I just like performing for the public. I get an adrenaline rush from it,” said Spc. Andrew Karp, saxophone. “I don’t know how else to describe it other than that.”
