U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kadrick Barnes, 351st Air Refueling Squadron boom operator, waves over a refueling truck to train on Specialized Fueling Operations on the flight line at RAF Mildenhall, England, June 1, 2026. Aircrew assigned to the 100th Operations Group trained in SFO during Astral Knight 26, an integrated air and missile defense exercise that allowed the U.S. Air Force to ensure it is prepared to protect critical infrastructure important to both European and American interests. The 351st Air Refueling Squadron is also using Astral Knight 26 to ensure aircrews are proficient in SFO, allowing them to refuel aircraft while engines remain running in austere locations with minimal personnel and accelerating the return to flight operations.
