U.S. Navy Sailors man the rails on the flight deck aboard the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) to pay honors as the ship gets underway from Key West, Florida, May 29, 2026. The ship's departure marks the beginning of a scheduled deployment supporting U.S. Northern Command’s maritime interdiction and border security operations in the region. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
