The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District completed replacement of the Tanner Gates at Jennings Randolph Lake, supporting continued safe and reliable operation of the dam on the North Branch of the Potomac River. The reservoir, completed in 1981, spans Mineral County, West Virginia, and Garrett County, Maryland, and submerged the former coal and lumber town of Shaw, West Virginia — established in 1881 — as part of the Bloomington Dam project. Shaw Beach, a popular Corps-operated recreation area, sits near the site of the former settlement. (U.S. Army photo by Jeremy Todd)
