Chicks are kept in a brooder box for the first four to six weeks of life, complete with safe bedding, accessible food and water, and a few heat lamps. When they are old enough, they will transition to the chicken tractors on the property, which are movable coops that allow for rotational grazing. Robert Greenlaw of Earth's Echo Farm in Fredericksburg, Virginia, offers local, pasture-raised beef, pigs, poultry and eggs. Robert and his wife Gini have used a number of USDA programs to support their operation - including conservation programs to integrate rotational grazing elements into their operation and farm loans for working capital purchases.
