Three great egrets (Ardea alba) take flight over Lake Okeechobee's wetlands, their white plumage contrasting against a partly cloudy sky. The wetland habitat, characterized by tall cordgrass and cattails bordering calm water, is typical of Gulf Coast or Atlantic coastal marshland ecosystems. Such wetlands serve as critical habitat for migratory and resident wading birds. (US Army Photo by Briida I. Sanchez)
