U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Tru Funderburg, a military working dog handler with Security Battalion, poses for a photo on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, May 14, 2026. Every May, our nation comes together for National Police Week to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers. This includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage. Working dog handlers utilize specialized canine teams to enhance security, detect threats (explosives/narcotics), and conduct law enforcement operations to protect Marine Corps installations and personnel worldwide.
