Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Ed Thomas, chief executive officer of the Air and Space Forces Aid Society, met with Military and Family Readiness Center staff during a visit to Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., May 7, 2026. M&FRC staff provided Thomas insight into the challenges Vandenberg SFB personnel face and how the AFAS can best support the local mission. As the official charity of the Department of the Air Force, AFAS provided nearly $12 million in support to more than 13,000 service members last year. The organization’s primary challenge remains ensuring that young Guardians and Airmen know this safety net exists before a crisis hits. (U.S. Space Force Photo by Airman Enso Valle)
