Anders Davidson, right, vascular surgeon assigned to the Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) 2026 mission, performs surgery on a 16-year-old Saint Lucian patient at Owen King European Union Hospital in Castries, Saint Lucia, April 27, 2026. Davidson worked alongside Dr. Charles Greenidge, general surgeon and president of the Caribbean College of Surgeons, to repair a gunshot wound that damaged the popliteal artery behind the patient’s knee. The vascular surgery restored blood flow to the leg, helping prevent amputation during the LAMAT 2026 mission, which brought U.S. and Saint Lucian medical professionals together for collaborative patient care and clinical knowledge exchange.
